Being 40 means I get to see a special doctor that specializes in old ladies being pregnant. I take $600 in blood tests because they have to be SURE about everything. There is talk about me having my tubes tied or even getting a hysterectomy. No history of Downs syndrome in either family. It is rare in African American and even more so among Caribbean people but still they insist.
I am calm now but I actually went to the bathroom and cried about it when my office visit was over. My doctor is female about early 40s, rail thin and emotionless. Why pay such high rates and you can't even get a sympathetic physician.
I am so holistic. I am trying to have shiny happy thoughts during this pregnancy. She actually said it doesn't really matter what my mood is during pregnancy. I guess she was just keepin' it real, but I am pretty much over her. Did I mention she was doctor of the year TWICE and is considered the best high risk obstetrician? Humph!

Considering her reputation, as a expert, I won't suggest that you find another doctor. I don't know how she was doctor of the year (twice) with a personality (or lack thereof) like that. Keep thinking happy thoughts, if that puts you at ease. Center your chai.
My "chai" is definately off center with this woman. We had a level 2 ultrasound with her and she was less abrasive.I think my midwife had a "little talk" with her. She , Nurse Rey, askked rather pointedly how I felt about the current appointment. I think maybe having hubby in the room may have changed things too. when he came in she was practically sunshine and roses.I even think she had slight banter with him. I was in too much shock to say much oif anything. She did look surprised that everything was [perfectly normal with the baby. What a piece of work that woman is!
I will think hard about what you said about sticking with her anyway Cinny. It just seems like too much work when I should be grinning and celebrating this new life.

It took all of what I knew to tell you NOT to find another doctor. That was my first thought, after reading your post, though. If you did find another one, I completely understand. You want to be positive & happy, not throwing your guard up everytime you have an appt with her.
Maybe you midwife did have a talk with her. Abrasive behavior is completely unacceptable in my book. You should be happy and at peace with your choice of physician. Now's the time to celebrate! Hopefully, she won't be abrasive any more. All the best Rosie!
I'll let you know how my 2 week appointment goes. Man she is so expensive too! Did any of you guys see, "Knocked Up!"? I really loved that movie. She went to so many CRAZY OBs that I could definitely relate. My doc is like the Asian man who kept asking questions and not believing the answer. lol
